All-Season Pool – How It Works, Installation & Benefits

swimlife swimspas installation - all-season pool

An all-season pool, also known as a swim spa, is a smaller version of a traditional pool that was created to be used year-round. Designed for swimming and other forms of exercise, all-season pools can keep you active even in the coldest weather.

What truly makes a swim spa unique, however, is that it can also be used as a hot tub, combining the best that a full-sized pool and a traditional spa have to offer.

With sizes running from 14 to 19 feet, they work in just about any outdoor space.

In this article, we take a closer look at all-season pools and what makes them different from traditional swimming pools and hot tubs.

How Do All-Season Pools Work?

An all-season pool has a built-in current system — created by a jet or propulsions system — that allows you to swim laps in place. The speed of the current can be adjusted to match your skill level.

While you’re swimming, the pool can be set at a refreshing 80° F but can be turned up to 104° F when you want to kick back and relax in one of the jetted soaker seats.

Like a hot tub, an all-season pool can be used even on the coldest winter day thanks to special insulation and built-in heaters.

Installation

As long as you’re not limited in your space, you can install your swim spa anywhere you like. The only must-haves are a strong, level surface that can withstand about 20,000 pounds of weight and an electrical hookup performed by a certified electrician.

It’s also nice to have it located near a water source, such as a hose, for easy fill-ups.

Other than that, the sky really is the limit for your installation. It can be indoors or outdoors, above-ground or built-in, on a patio or on a deck.

The Health Benefits

All season pools were built with your health in mind. Not only do they offer the ability to swim stationary laps, but you can also do rowing, resistance training, walking and jogging as well as some types of aerobic activity.

Using your pool regularly can promote weight loss or management, better cardiovascular and lung health, stronger muscles, increased flexibility, and lower stress levels.

As an added benefit, the buoyancy of the water protects your joints from impact, and you’ll burn more calories thanks to the resistance it offers.
