Whatever reason you need for an afternoon involving hot tubbing and a barbecue, make it an excellent excuse to gather your closest friends and family over for a party!

With some favorite recipes, a cooler filled with beverages, a few basic hot tub accessories, and one of the reliable BBQs and smokers heating up tasty food on your patio, you can easily create an experience they won’t soon forget!

1. Stay Open to New Recipes

While many may argue that the most important part of any barbecue is the meat, others have found that an excellent sauce is far superior to a cookout.

This is because not only can it mask any impurities in the flavor of the meat, but it can also be applied to grilled vegetables for people who prefer a more vegan lifestyle.

Those who are quite passionate about their BBQ will be able to appreciate the diversity that comes with unfamiliar methods of cooking, as a little experience will often go a long way for the true aficionado.

2. The Menu

Whether you are grilling chicken legs and steaks, or vegetable kabobs and whole mushrooms, you will want whatever you are going to eat to be at peak quality. If you shop at a local farmer’s market, you may be able to find the best available products for the season and get them at a good price.

Depending on the type of wood chips you use in your smoker, you can create a massive range of flavor for your taste buds to enjoy.

Some prefer to smoke their food in hickory for a full day to obtain that fall-off-the-bone juiciness, while others would rather use a dry rub composed of secret ingredients and then slather it with homemade sauce.

3. Choosing the Flavors

Because of the incredible variety of sauces available, it can be a matter of personal preference or even creating one of your own. A good barbecue sauce can be made to accommodate any number of dietary limitations. Many use a tomato base, but some can also be primarily composed of mustard or even honey.

Saskatoon Blueberry Barbecue Sauce

One good recipe that is adjustable and considered quite delicious is the Saskatoon Blueberry Barbecue Sauce. Saskatoon berries grow best near British Columbia and Washington, whereas blueberries are the most commonly found to the eastern parts of North America.

This recipe is very easy to make and can be stored in the refrigerator.

Prepare a medium saucepan over medium-high heat with approximately one tablespoon of vegetable oil. Soften a quarter cup of diced onion and a tablespoon of diced jalapeno in the oil. Add a quarter cup each of brown sugar, ketchup, dijon mustard, and vinegar.

Some may add a teaspoon of hot sauce for extra flavor. Allow this mixture to boil, then reduce to a simmer and add two cups of berries. When the sauce thickens, after approximately fifteen minutes, remove from the heat and let it cool.

If you are following a gluten-free diet, make sure the vinegar is safe for consumption. If you are following a low-carb diet, replace the brown sugar with an artificial sweetener and make sure that the ketchup has no sugar added.

Be aware of depending on the sweetener you use, as less may be more and could easily overwhelm your sauce. Start with an eighth of a cup and move up from there. Depending on your tolerance for the berries, which are a low-glycemic fruit, you should be able to use the full two cups for your recipe without any issues.

4. The Details

The food is only one aspect of your backyard BBQ party. You’ll also want to ensure that you have the following:

  • Wide range of beverages for all to enjoy
  • Music playlist that caters to all tastes
  • Decorations to set the mood
  • Outdoor lighting to help create a fun atmosphere
  • Clean and ready-to-use hot tub or all season pool

Grab a fun BBQ apron, invite your closest friends and have a blast!
