How to Plan The Perfect At-Home Spa Day In 10 Steps

premium spa day

If you’re looking for new ways to get the most out of your hot tub, why not plan an at-home spa day?

The perfect activity to share with your daughter, mother, sister or friend, it’s also an ideal way to relax when you need some alone time. The key to a great do-it-yourself spa day is planning ahead.

Read on to learn how you can make your special day the ultimate relaxation experience with a few simple steps.

1. Be Prepared

Do a little bit of shopping before your designated day to be sure you’ll have everything you need to make it perfect. Nothing is more frustrating than being in the middle of your routine, only to discover you’re all out of nail polish remover or exfoliant.

Make a list beforehand of everything you’ll need and hit your favourite store to stock up.

2. Set Up in Advance

Have all of the items you plan to ready before beginning your spa routine. This will help your experience to flow smoothly. Calming music will enhance the mood, so why not create a special playlist in advance to take you through your day?

Having aromatherapy candles or a diffuser and essential oil set up in the areas where you’ll be performing your beauty rituals is a nice touch as well.

3. First Steps

If you have long hair, do it up in a bun or twist, don a headband to keep your bangs or stray hairs out of your face and remove any makeup you have on. Put on your most comfortable bathing suit, robe, and slippers and get ready for some hydrotherapy in your hot tub.

Having a tall glass of naturally-flavoured or sparkling water on hand will keep you hydrated while you’re soaking. The heated water and jet massage will relax your body and also aid in detoxification of the skin.

Start your music playlist, add some spa-friendly aromatherapy fragrances to the hot tub water and relax for 20 minutes.

4. Get Started With Your Facial

Once your soak is over, your skin is ready for a little pampering. Not only will the temperature of the water open up your pores, but sweating will have flushed toxins from your body. Start by gently exfoliating your face and neck with your favourite facial scrub. Rinse your face and then apply a face mask.

Clay masks are great for ridding your skin of impurities, but there are also a number of great DIY face masks that you can make at home.

5. Mani and Pedi Prep

While you’re waiting for your mask to dry — usually about 10-15 minutes, it’s time to prep your nails. Remove any existing polish from your tips and toes and trim them if necessary. Use a file to shape your nails and then gently push your cuticles to the base of your nail beds.

Next, gently exfoliate your hands and feet, rinse and apply your favourite cream.

6. Complete Your Facial

Your face mask should be dry by now. Remove it gently with a warm, wet washcloth and then splash your face with cool water.

Apply facial serum to your face and décolletage and then spritz your face with a toner. When your skin is dry, apply eye cream, moisturizer and some facial sunscreen.

7. A Bit Of Varnish

With your facial done, it’s time to complete your nails. Choose the colours you wish to use and apply two or three coats of polish to your hands and feet. Use a topcoat to seal your nails and then sit back and relax with a book or some TV while they dry.

8. Take Care of Your Body

Now that you’ve taken care of your face and nails, it’s time to give the rest of your body some attention. Use a dry brush or exfoliating gloves to rid your body of dry, dead skin.

Dry brushing not only exfoliates your skin, but it also helps detoxify your body by increasing blood circulation, lymph flow, and drainage. A relaxing soak directly after dry brushing enhances the process, ridding your body of dead skin and impurities.

9. Cool Off

Once your hot tub session is over, hop in the shower and set the water to cool. This will close your pores and boost your blood circulation further. It can also be very invigorating and give you a little energy boost. If you have a heart condition or high blood pressure, you should check with your doctor before trying a radical temperature change.

Once you’re out of the shower and toweled off, apply body butter or some lotion to your entire body. This will leave your skin feeling soft and supple.

10. Final Steps

Now that you’re feeling completely relaxed, why not end the session with a little bit more me-time? Take a nap, read a book or watch your favourite movie.
